Safe and fast trace peroxides analysis at ppb level

06 Apr, 2026

Peroxides present a significant safety risk in production and storage, while even trace levels can degrade fuels by lowering gasoline octane numbers. Traditional test methods, such as ASTM D2340 and ASTM E299, struggle with air (oxygen) interference and rely on manual, wet-chemistry procedures.

To automate the trace level determination of peroxides Da Vinci Laboratory Solutions developed the Fast Peroxide Analyser, standardised as ASTM D8534. This fully automated solution uses flow injection analysis on an Agilent 1260 Infinity II HPLC equipped with a dedicated reaction module. The result: accurate peroxide quantification down to ppb levels within five minutes, without manual handling or hazardous reagents.

The analyser supports a wide application range, including 1,3-butadiene, aqueous process streams, aviation turbine fuels, glycols, isoprene, olefinic hydrocarbon streams and styrene monomer.
