Flow meter
Emerson has announced its new Rosemount™ 9000 Series™ Magnetic Flow Meter portfolio, launching with the Rosemount 9732 Magnetic Flow Transmitter and Rosemount 9205 Magnetic Flow Sensor. Designed for demanding process applications, the portfolio introduces new features to improve flow measurement, simplify troubleshooting and help keep critical operations running reliably across industries including oil and gas, refining, chemical processing, metals and mining, power, water and wastewater, and other process-intensive sectors.
“Customers are looking for technologies that help them do more with fewer resources while maintaining confidence in their operations. The Rosemount 9000 Series Magnetic Flowmeter delivers intelligent diagnostics, simplified operation and trusted measurement performance that help users improve reliability, reduce maintenance effort and make better decisions,” said Bob Halgren, Vice President Products with Emerson’s measurement instrumentation business.
Key features include: advanced diagnostics; built-in Smart Meter Verification; enhanced sensor design; and a universal power supply and configurable outputs.
Advanced diagnostics support proactive maintenance and faster troubleshooting, helping operators reduce downtime and improve measurement reliability in critical process applications. Diagnostics include coated electrode detection, tunable empty pipe detection, smart fluid diagnostic and five standard logs covering totaliser, audit trail, alert, security and Smart Meter Verification™, Emerson’s proprietary diagnostic software. Together, these features help identify coating buildup, electrical noise, empty pipe conditions and other issues that could affect measurement performance, helping operators maintain reliable flow data and process continuity.
Built-in Smart Meter Verification enables users to check meter health and measurement performance without removing the sensor from service or interrupting operations. Standard built-in verification provides pass/fail diagnostics, including sensor health checks, while the advanced verification option adds detailed electrode and coil health data with historical logging. For oil and gas, refining and other continuous-process applications, these capabilities can support faster troubleshooting, help reduce calibration requirements and provide greater confidence in critical flow measurements.
Enhanced sensor design is engineered to deliver accuracy and long-term measurement stability in demanding process environments. Design improvements include advanced magnetics, optimised sensor construction, a redesigned housing and intrinsically safe wiring, alongside a 50% reduction in power requirements. The resulting stronger, more stable signals provide up to four times better out-of-the-box performance, supporting consistent measurement across demanding applications.
A universal power supply simplifies installation and helps reduce configuration errors, setup time and the risk of incorrect wiring. The meter can accept either AC or DC power, providing flexibility for new installations, plant upgrades and retrofit applications across global operations without requiring reordering or reconfiguration.
Configurable outputs support flexible integration with a wide range of control and automation systems, helping simplify commissioning and reduce installation risks. The meter supports analog, digital and pulse outputs, together with user-defined scaling, alert mapping and fail-safe behaviour. This flexibility can help reduce commissioning time, minimise wiring errors and maintain compatibility with both legacy and modern control architectures.
For oil and gas, refining and petrochemical operators, the combination of advanced diagnostics, measurement verification and flexible installation options is designed to support reliable flow measurement while helping maintenance teams identify potential issues earlier and reduce the need for unnecessary process interruptions.
