Fuel analysis
Accurate fuel testing begins with more than advanced instrumentation—it starts with knowledgeable operators. As fuel specifications evolve and renewable fuels become increasingly common, laboratories need personnel who understand not only ASTM test methods, but also the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment used to perform them. The CFR Engines Inc. (CFR) Training Academy was developed to help fuel testing laboratories build that expertise through comprehensive, hands-on technical training.
Located at the manufacturing facility in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, the CFR Training Academy offers instructor-led courses designed to help laboratory technicians, engineers, maintenance personnel, and quality professionals improve their knowledge of octane testing, cetane testing, and fuel testing equipment maintenance. By combining classroom instruction with practical exercises on operating systems, the academy provides participants with the confidence to maintain reliable, accurate, and repeatable fuel testing results.
The Training Academy offers a variety of courses to support laboratories at every experience level. Customers can choose from programs including Octane Maintenance & Troubleshooting, Octane Cylinder Overhaul, Octane Crankcase Overhaul, Cetane EFI Maintenance & Troubleshooting, and XCP® TECHNOLOGY Operations Plus Beginners Maintenance & Diagnosis Training. Each course is taught by experienced CFR technical specialists who work directly with the equipment and support laboratories around the world.
Unlike traditional classroom-only instruction, the CFR Training Academy emphasizes hands-on learning. Participants perform maintenance procedures, practice troubleshooting techniques, learn calibration best practices, and gain experience working directly on CFR octane and cetane engines. This practical approach helps operators understand not just how to perform a task, but why each procedure is critical to achieving accurate fuel testing results.
Training at the factory also provides a unique opportunity to learn from the experts who design, manufacture, and support CFR testing systems. Participants can ask technical questions, discuss specific laboratory applications, and gain valuable insight into equipment operation directly from the engineers and specialists responsible for developing CFR technologies. This collaborative environment allows customers to leave with practical solutions they can immediately implement in their own laboratories.
As the fuels industry continues to embrace renewable diesel, biodiesel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and other alternative fuels, maintaining testing accuracy has become increasingly important. New fuel formulations can present unique operational challenges, making proper equipment maintenance and operator training essential. The CFR Training Academy helps laboratories prepare for these evolving demands by reinforcing ASTM testing procedures, preventive maintenance practices, and operational best practices that improve consistency while minimizing downtime.
Investing in fuel laboratory training also delivers long-term value. Well-trained operators are better equipped to identify potential issues before they impact testing, perform routine maintenance correctly, reduce costly downtime, and extend equipment life. These benefits contribute to improved laboratory productivity, more reliable data, and greater confidence in every test result.
At CFR Engines Inc., supporting our customers extends well beyond equipment installation. The Training Academy represents an ongoing commitment to helping customers maximize the performance of their octane and cetane testing systems through education, technical expertise, and hands-on experience. Whether training new operators or expanding the skills of experienced laboratory personnel, the CFR Training Academy equips customers with the knowledge needed to operate confidently, maintain equipment effectively, and meet the evolving demands of today's fuel testing industry.
