The PMA 5 Pensky-Martens flash point tester from Anton Paar (Austria) is the standardised solution for both biodiesel and biodiesel-blended fuels, along with distillate fuels like diesel, heating oil and kerosene, as well as potentially flammable liquids like lubricating oils with expected flash points in the range from 40 °C to 400 °C.

For maximum safety, the instrument comes with an integrated fire-extinguishing device that can be automatically controlled or released manually. Flames that might occur outside the cup are extinguished by nitrogen or carbon dioxide gas.

Preset test routines, individually set modes, a high memory capacity and a multi-function head for easy one-hand simultaneous connection of all sensors and actuators simplify the procedure and reduce the time interval between two consecutive flash point tests to a minimum.

As a unique feature of the PMA 5, a dynamic calibration routine of the sample measuring probe Pt100 is already included. With an optional calibration set consisting of certified ASTM thermometers 9C and 10C and a special lid, the user can calibrate the sample measuring probe Pt100 on-site in a cost-effective way. This routine follows exactly those calibration points of the related ASTM thermometer which are described in the standard specification for ASTM Liquid in Glass Thermometers E1. In case of a deviation to the sample measuring probe Pt100, a correction can be made through the calibration procedure at the PMA 5.
