Sulphur analysis
Published over 3 years ago. See the latest and most current information on Sulphur analysis.
The quality and grade of crude oil depend on sulphur (S) content as well as the presence of nickel (Ni) and vanadium (V), and in some cases, iron (Fe). Knowing the Ni and V content is imperative for refining purposes, contract agreements, as well as meeting NYMEX/CME specifications.
When nickel and vanadium are present in crudes, they negatively impact the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) process when deposited on the catalyst. When this occurs, the pore system becomes plugged, resulting in a deactivation or “poisoning” of the catalyst.
To help protect the industry, Applied Rigaku Technologies offers the affordable NEX QC+ analyser specially designed for rapid elemental analysis of Ni, V, Fe, and S in crude. Technicians can certify products per ASTM D8252 and ASTM D4294 quicker and easier.
The Rigaku NEX QC+ is a compact, benchtop EDXRF (energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence) system that delivers rapid qualitative and quantitative elemental analyses. It provides non-destructive analysis of sodium (Na) to uranium (U) in a variety of sample types and serves a broad range of petroleum analysis applications. With multi-element capabilities, users can measure sulphur, metals, and more.
NEX QC+ is well-suited for measuring sulphur in oils per ASTM D4294, sulphur in crude and bunker fuel, and performs other petroleum-related applications, including analysis of metals in crudes and residual fuels per ASTM D8252. With a 50 kV X-ray tube and silicon drift detector (SDD), NEX QC+ offers exceptional spectral resolution and throughput. The high voltage capability and multiple automated tube filters provide enhanced sensitivity and low limits of detection.
NEX QC+ is user-installed and requires minimal routine maintenance. It is lightweight, portable, and does not need an external PC. Whether on the plant floor or in remote field environments, the intuitive touchscreen interface and built-in printer make this instrument easy to use and convenient. The multi-element versatility, unmatched performance, and small footprint make NEX QC+ an attractive system for any facility and replaces the need for multiple single-element benchtops.
Rigaku NEX QC+ combines superior performance capabilities with affordability.
