Elemental Scientific (ESI) has introduced TRAXOil, an automated sample handling and preparation platform designed specifically for oil analysis ahead of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) testing.

The system is designed to transform source oil samples directly into ready-to-analyse solutions, with ESI saying the approach is intended to improve speed, precision and consistency compared with manual sample preparation methods. TRAXOil forms part of ESI's wider portfolio of automated sample introduction and handling systems for ICP-MS and ICP-OES, which also includes platforms for semiconductor, clinical and industrial applications.

For laboratories testing wear metals in lubricants and trace elements in crude oil and refined products, ESI said automating the sample preparation step is intended to reduce contamination risk and analyst handling time, while improving the traceability of results.
