SeNSe²: A Trusted Standard for Sulfur and Nitrogen Detection in the Lab
Jun 17 2025
The SeNSe² from PAC powered by Analytical Controls, is a sulfur/nitrogen selective detector engineered for high-accuracy gas chromatography (GC) applications. Utilizing enhanced chemiluminescence detection, SeNSe² delivers reliable and precise sulfur and nitrogen speciation, helping laboratories meet environmental, quality, and process requirements with confidence.
Speciation, rather than just total content, is critical in refining, petrochemical, and gas processing applications. Sulfur and nitrogen compounds, even in trace amounts, can impact catalyst performance, product quality, and regulatory compliance. SeNSe² addresses these challenges with superior sensitivity, equimolar response, and stability—ensuring high data integrity across varied sample types.
Key Performance Features
SeNSe² delivers exceptional equimolar response and ultra-low detection limits, ensuring accurate speciation even at trace levels. Its wide dynamic range and outstanding long-term stability make it reliable in demanding operating conditions. The detector’s heavy-duty insulation maintains precise furnace temperature control at 950°C, while integrated gas filters enhance baseline clarity and overall data reproducibility. For sulfur analysis, laboratories can choose between oxygen or air as the oxidant source, depending on application needs. Additionally, automated leak and pressure checks provide built-in quality control, supporting consistent performance with minimal manual intervention.
Optimized for Lab Efficiency
SeNSe² is designed to make lab workflows faster and easier, with:
- A 7” touchscreen interface for full standalone operation and real-time diagnostics
- Tool-free access panels and fast ceramic replacement to simplify routine maintenance
- Full compatibility with most GC systems from major manufacturers
- Maintenance-friendly design—routine GC column replacements can be performed without system shutdown
Built-In Validation: The G-Cal Module
SeNSe² includes a G-Cal service module, an internal permeation device used to verify detector performance without removing the GC from service. The G-Cal introduces a constant, known amount of sulfur or nitrogen directly to the detector, bypassing the GC column, and enabling fast, automated system validation and troubleshooting.
Compliant and Application-Ready
SeNSe² supports a broad range of standardized and custom analytical applications, making it highly adaptable to various industry needs. It is compatible with ASTM D5504 for determining sulfur compounds in natural gas, ASTM D5623 for sulfur in light petroleum liquids, ASTM D7011 for trace thiophene in refined benzene, and ASTM D7807 for analyzing the boiling range distribution of hydrocarbon and sulfur components. In addition to these standard methods, SeNSe² can also be configured for custom applications, such as detecting carbonyl sulfide in propylene or nitric oxide in ethylene, offering labs the flexibility to address unique testing requirements.
Why Labs Choose SeNSe²
In environments where even trace sulfur and nitrogen can harm catalysts or compromise product quality, SeNSe² offers the sensitivity, selectivity, and reliability laboratories need to stay ahead. Whether you're ensuring environmental compliance or protecting critical equipment, SeNSe² empowers confident decision-making with data you can trust.
