Analyzing Sulfur, Nitrogen, and Halides in a Petrochemical Plant
Nov 21 2012
In a petrochemical plant, it is important to measure total halogens and total sulfur content (F/Cl/Br/S) in liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs) and other process streams. Fluorides, chlorides and sulfur compounds can react and produce extremely corrosive acids, which can cause gas leaks and installations damage. With the Antek MultiTek®, when coupled with an ion chromatograph, it is possible to determine total sulfur, total nitrogen, and halides all in one analyzer. Users are able to achieve sensitive, automated, and reliable analysis of sulfur, nitrogen, and halides in LPGs. This allows the refinery to monitor potentially corrosive concentration levels to improve plant safety and efficiency.
Another important application for the petrochemical industry is determining trace nitrogen in naphthas. This parameter is important not only for the above described reasons, but also because nitrogen can seriously affect the activity of very expensive catalysts and cause costly downtimes. The MultiTek Analyzer accurately determines very low levels of nitrogen via standard addition and combustion chemiluminescence analysis.
Both of the above-mentioned applications can help improve plant safety and efficiency. To learn more about them, watch the on-demand webinar, which covers:
- General uses for these applications and why it is important
- How to configure the MultiTek for these Petrochemical applications
- The overall benefit of using MultiTek for these applications
