In March 2014 the updated ASTM standard D975-14 was published, including the ASTM D7042 method for viscosity testing of diesel fuel. The only viscometer which performs this standard test method is SVM 3000 by Anton Paar (Austria).

D7042 revolutionises diesel fuel testing by providing the following benefits: Up to 4 times faster than ASTM D445; Flexible temperature control with integrated Peltier thermostat; Only 3.5 mL of sample volume; Integrated 3-digit density measurement; No thermostat bath; and No capillary.

Furthermore, SVM 3000 is a compact instrument with a footprint of only 0.25 m2; it is easy to transport and insensitive to vibrations, which also makes it suitable for measurement on ships and in mobile laboratories.

SVM 3000 requires low sample volumes only and also saves costs for solvents with its minimal solvent consumption of only 2.5 mL.

For high sample throughput, a fully automatic sample changer for handling up to 96 samples is also available.
