Gas detector
New portable instrument detects two gases simultaneously
Jun 24 2025
Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection (Teledyne GFD) has introduced the PS DUO, a portable dual-gas detector designed to enhance personal safety across a wide range of gas monitoring applications. This innovative handheld instrument provides real-time detection, incorporating audible, visual (via bright LEDs), and vibrating alarms that offer immediate warning when gas concentrations exceed predefined safety thresholds.
Utilising passive diffusion sensing technology, the PS DUO delivers continuous monitoring of harmful gases in potentially hazardous environments, significantly improving protection for personnel. Capable of simultaneously detecting two gases, the device supports a comprehensive range of target gases including carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), sulphur dioxide (SO₂), ammonia (NH₃), oxygen (O₂), hydrogen (H₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), and ozone (O₃). This flexibility enables users to tailor gas pairings to meet the specific demands of their application, with the assurance of ATEX and IECEx certification, as well as the added benefit of a two-year warranty.
For users operating in regions such as the Middle East, the PS DUO’s capability to monitor H₂S and SO₂ is particularly important. The instrument offers a measuring range for hydrogen sulphide of 0 to 100 ppm with a resolution of 0.1 ppm. Alarm thresholds are configured at 10 ppm for low-level alert and 15 ppm for high-level alert. For sulphur dioxide, the detector provides a measuring range of 0 to 20 ppm, with a resolution of 0.1 ppm, while alarms are triggered at 2 ppm and 5 ppm for low and high levels, respectively.
A clear LCD screen displays real-time gas concentration data continuously, supported by internal memory that can store up to 30 alarm logs. Wireless connectivity enhances the PS DUO’s functionality by enabling easy data retrieval and seamless integration with external safety management systems.
The instrument’s rugged build is reinforced by a rubberised, IP67-rated enclosure, ensuring high durability even in the most challenging conditions. With a compact size of 56 x 89 x 21 mm and a weight of just 200 grams, the PS DUO offers ergonomic comfort combined with strong performance. Under typical use, the device can operate for up to two years on a single replaceable battery, providing long-term reliability and low maintenance.
In addition to the PS DUO, Teledyne GFD also offers the Protégé ZM (Zero Maintenance), a compact single-gas monitor available in O₂, CO, H₂S, and SO₂ models. Designed with an emphasis on ease of use and ergonomic comfort, the Protégé ZM delivers dependable performance in the field, allowing industrial workers and first responders to maintain their focus on operational tasks without being distracted by their equipment.
Also in the Teledyne product range is the PS200 four-gas compliance monitor, which is both lightweight and highly durable. This robust and water-resistant device has a proven track record in hazardous environments and can measure any combination of Lower Explosive Limit (LEL), O₂, CO, and H₂S. For confined space applications, the PS200 is available in a pumped version, featuring an internal sampling pump to enhance its versatility and user safety further.
Pawel Kulik, Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection’s Product Manager-Portables, commented, “With its reliable performance, flexible gas pairings and wireless integration, our PS DUO offers a powerful new option for industrial safety programmes - backed by Teledyne’s global service and support. It adds to an existing and highly successful range of personal safety and gas monitoring solutions that includes our portable Protégé ZM and PS200.”
