Automated Trace Sulphur Calibration Across Multiple Chromatography Methods

Trace sulphur analysis is critical in refinery, petrochemical, natural gas, and environmental applications where even ppbv sulphur concentrations can poison catalysts, corrode equipment, and compromise product quality. Analytical methods such as GC-SCD, GC-SSD, and GC-PFPD require highly accurate calibration standards to ensure reliable sulphur quantification at ultra-low levels.

Traditional static gas cylinders present challenges for trace sulphur calibration because reactive sulphur compounds readily adsorb to cylinder walls and react with internal surfaces, regulators, and sampling lines. These interactions can lead to concentration instability and inaccurate calibration, particularly at very low sulphur levels. As analytical instrumentation becomes more sensitive, dynamically generated gas standards have become the preferred solution for trace sulphur applications.
