Profound knowledge of the apparent viscosity of asphalt binder at manufacturing and construction temperatures provides information about workability, pumpability and mixability. The AASHTO T316, ASTM D4402 and DIN EN 13302 standards describe the procedure for measuring the apparent viscosity of asphalt binder using a rotational viscometer/rheometer with the capability to maintain the test temperature.

SmartPave is a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) from Anton Paar (Austria). It is equipped with a completely new and unique air-cooled Peltier temperature device with special concentric cylinder geometry. With this heating system sagging effects and temperature gradients are completely eliminated and the heating and cooling rates are unbelievably fast. Specifically designed for the needs of the asphalt industry, the rheometer software ensures the correct measuring temperature with automatic temperature calibration.

Due to the versatility and modularity of SmartPave, all tests used in modern rheology today can be performed. The broad torque range and true stress and strain capabilities allow you to adjust the measurements to special needs. This makes SmartPave a smart long-term investment which can adapt to fit requirements when asphalt test specifications change in the future.
