Industrial machinery needs to work non-stop, around the clock, all week long. That’s a big job, but keeping that machinery working shouldn’t be. Friction is the enemy of uptime in machines with moving parts, and you rely on lubricating oils, cutting oils, and greases to keep friction down. But how can you tell when your lubricant needs replacing, before it starts to affect machine performance? And what about ensuring that you’re getting what you pay for when purchasing replacement lubricants?
The answer: refractometry. Refractometric analysis is a simple, quick, and accurate way of determining the quality of lubricating hydrocarbons throughout their useful life cycle. With just a small sample and a few seconds, refractometers can show you whether your lubricant meets operating specifications. Anton Paar’s Abbemat series of refractometers can even alert you to results outside predetermined ranges with the easy-to-read “Quality Check” feature.
All Abbemat refractometers from Anton Paar (Austria) meet or exceed the specifications of ASTM D1218 and D1747. This means accuracy to four decimals or better, a measuring range of 1.26 to 1.72, and, with the Abbemat HT model, measurement at temperatures up to 110 °C. Sample temperature can be quickly and accurately adjusted to the reference temperature via the integrated Peltier control. And because of their measurement principle, Anton Paar’s refractometers can even measure the dark-coloured samples you might obtain from lubricant at the end of its life cycle.
Remember, less downtime for your machines means more downtime for you. Let Anton Paar make your job easier with the Abbemat series of refractometers.
