Viscometer
The new SVM 1001 series from Anton Paar – including the SVM 1001, SVM 1001 Simple Fill, and SVM 1101 Simple Fill – delivers automatic digital viscosity and density measurement as a precise alternative to manual techniques.
For labs that rely on ASTM D7042 and ASTM D4052 compliance, the series delivers:
• Kinematic viscosity range: 0.3 mm²/s to 3,000 mm²/s
• Density range: 0 g/cm³ to 3 g/cm³
• Operating temperature: 15 °C to 100 °C
These specifications ensure suitability across various materials and are particularly well-suited to quality control in petroleum testing. With 150 % higher throughput, 95 % less energy consumption compared to manual glass capillaries, and 75 % less solvent use, the return on investment is clear.
SVM 1001 offers a robust alternative to traditional capillary viscometers, addressing common issues such as glass breakage, lengthy manual procedures, and error-prone data logging. With a wide viscosity range of 0.3 mm²/s to 5,000 mm²/s in a single cell, it eliminates the need to switch tubes for different sample types, saving time and cutting complexity.
Compared to glass capillary systems, SVM 1001:
• Delivers viscosity results within a few minutes
• Provides automatic data recording for higher accuracy
• Lowers operational costs via reduced labor and consumables
The Simple Fill models (SVM 1001 Simple Fill and SVM 1101 Simple Fill) feature an integrated funnel to enable direct filling without syringes. The user simply pours the sample into the funnel and presses “Measure” – the instrument handles the rest. Post-measurement, the sample is automatically drained. Cleaning and drying are also automated after solvent has been poured in.
This level of automation means:
• Significantly fewer manual steps
• Lower chance of operator errors
• Suitability even for untrained personnel
• Quick readiness for the next measurement
The optionally battery-operated SVM 1001 series supports mobile operation for testing outside the lab, such as at filling lines or other locations where oil condition monitoring is required. Built with a robust metal measuring cell and integrated Peltier temperature control, the instruments require no external thermostats or baths.
The SVM 1001 series complies with more than 50 globally recognized standards, ensuring seamless integration into regulated workflows in refineries, testing labs, and lubricant blending and fuel analysis facilities.
