Nitrogen Interference During Sulphur Determination

Regulations regarding the maximum allowed concentration of sulphur in diesel fuels have become more strict in recent years. While sulphur numbers are getting lower, the number of additives in fuels have increased. Cetane improvers, an additive containing 500 – 1000 ppm of nitrogen, can generate a positive contribution to the total sulphur number in fuel.

The innovative XPLORER and, in particular, its sulphur detector have reduced sensitivity to the false contribution of NOx. In most cases, the need for a complex solution to eliminate nitrogen has vanished. When absolute elimination is required, the XPLORER will be tailored with NOxin, TE Instruments' (The Netherlands) ultrapure TS solution.
