Redefining cold-cranking testing for modern lubricant laboratories

25 Jun, 2025

Cannon Instrument Company has launched the latest evolution of its Cold-Cranking Simulator (CCS), setting a new benchmark for cold-temperature engine oil analysis. The newly introduced CCS-G6 builds upon Cannon’s legacy as the developer of the only CCS method recognised by ASTM, SAE J300, and numerous global standards bodies, offering a future-ready solution engineered to meet the modern demands of formulation, blending, and QA laboratories.

The CCS-G6 has been purpose-designed to address longstanding operational frustrations commonly reported by lab managers and technicians. Most significantly, the new system eliminates the need for external peripherals such as chillers, computers, and waste pumps, resulting in a streamlined, compact footprint,  ideal for space-conscious laboratories.

A key innovation of the CCS-G6 is its fully integrated, standalone architecture, which eliminates dependency on external PCs and cooling systems. In place of conventional setups, operators now benefit from an intuitive touchscreen interface that significantly simplifies both navigation and daily operation. Additionally, the system features enhanced calibration capabilities, helping labs save valuable time while reducing oil waste, critical factors in high-throughput environments.

From its optimised benchtop design to its user-focused interface and improved workflow efficiency, the CCS-G6 reflects Cannon’s enviable reputation for precision, reliability, and laboratory innovation. Whether deployed in a high-volume motor oil blending facility or a performance formulation and QA setting, the CCS-G6 delivers tangible advantages where they are needed most.

Jesse Rameshwaram, Product Manager at Cannon Instrument Company commented, “Cannon is doubling down on its legacy of precision and innovation. With the new CCS, we’ve fused our proven technology with a user-centric design to create an instrument that’s not only best-in-class, but completely reimagined for the modern lab.”

The CCS-G6 will be officially available for purchase from July 1, 2025. Click here for additional information, technical specifications, or to schedule a product demonstration.
