New FTIR flow cells advance FAME in diesel quality control

Anton Paar has introduced Lyza Flow Cells for the Lyza 7000 FTIR spectrometer, extending its application scope for FAME in diesel analysis. The new flow cell configurations support measurements according to ASTM D7371, ASTM D7806, and DIN EN 14078, helping fuel laboratories implement routine biodiesel blend control with dedicated hardware, embedded evaluation, and pre-installed application presets.

FAME content is routinely monitored in diesel blending, release testing, terminal operations, and incoming goods inspection. For laboratories performing diesel analysis, Lyza 7000 now offers dedicated flow cell configurations for each standard-specific requirement.

ASTM D7371

For ASTM D7371, the new V-ATR ZnSe Flow Cell features a unique vertical ATR design that combines flow operation with a 12-bounce ZnSe crystal. Pre-installed chemometric models enable the measurement of diesel samples across a FAME content range of 0 % to 100 %.

A key advantage of the V-ATR design is that FAME content from 0 % to 20 % can be measured without initial calibration, allowing laboratories to start routine measurements straight out of the box.

ASTM D7806

For ASTM D7806, Lyza 7000 uses the 100 µm ZnSe Transmission Flow Cell. The pre-installed application preset automatically applies the appropriate quanti-fication model based on the biodiesel concentration of the sample. Users simply start the measurement and receive a standards-aligned FAME result directly from the instrument, with range selection handled within the Lyza workflow.

DIN EN 14078

For DIN EN 14078, the 50 µm CaF2 Transmission Flow Cell is designed for the standard’s B range, covering FAME content of 3 % to 20 %. This makes it a straightforward option for routine diesel samples without requiring dilution.

All Lyza Flow Cell configurations can be combined with Anton Paar Xsample sample changers to automate sample handling, increase throughput, and sup-port consistent operation. Anton Paar will showcase the Lyza Flow Cells at the Gulf Coast Conference, a key U.S. event for chemical analysis technology in the petrochemical, refining, and environmental industries. The event will be held from October 13 to October 14, 2026, in Galveston, Texas, United States.
