Open Path Infrared Gas Detector Now with Expanded Range for Combustible Gas Monitoring

The IR5000 Open Path Hydrocarbon Gas Detector from General Monitors (USA) is now available with a new expanded distance range of 130 meters, offering increased versatility when choosing an open path gas
detection system. The IR5000, with its unique, highly accurate single gas detection beam technology, improves accuracy, reduces drift and raises immunity to false alarms.
The unpredictable nature of clouds formed by gas leaks and the effects of air currents fromeven light winds indicate that in outdoor environments, gas dispersion can result in very low gas concentrations. The IR5000 Open Path Gas Detector offers a powerful new option for protecting people, equipment and facilities from these dangerous low concentrations—andmore difficult to detect—hydrocarbon gas leaks. The IR5000 can now be configured for distances of 20, 100 or 130 meters.
The General Monitors IR5000 effectively detects gas leaks with its high sensitivity and operates as a hazardous situationmonitor for higher gas concentrations. The open path monitoring unit is designed for detection of hydrocarbon gases in the 0-5,000 ppm meter and 0-5 LEL meter ranges. The IR5000 features superior reliability and provides an additional level of hazardous leak protection. Additionally, the IR5000 Gas Detector minimizes operational costs associated with unreliable gas detection due to false alarms.
Applications for the IR5000 include open path detection used to complement point gas detection and as a component in a total system solution.
The IR5000 can be used effectively in applications where a single monitor can cover a line of several potential leak sources, such as a row of valves or pumps. The system can also be used for perimeter monitoring, assuring greater coverage over wider areas than point detection alone. Examples of perimeter monitoring are fence line monitoring, tank farms, gas spheres or process areas inside refineries.
The IR5000 Open Path Hydrocarbon Gas Detector incorporates fail-to-safe design and microprocessor technology for advanced performance features and fault diagnostics. Included in the fault diagnostics is a continuous optical path check and fault alarms will occur if the optics are dirty or if the IR signal is weak or blocked or if an instrument malfunction takes place. Although the IR5000 does not need to be field
calibrated, an AutoZERO feature is provided to allow the operator to zero the instrument with no traditional zero and span adjustments, saving operations time and expense. The system is easy to install, with no tools required and provides exceptional performance and reliability.
