3M Gas & Flame Detection’s CXT gas detector with WirelessHART® will be an easy addition to any existing HART wireless network. Just mount it to a wall or pole, set the network key, and the unit will automatically join any existing HART wireless network. These gas detectors are designed for use in heavy industrial environments and include an electro-polished 316 stainless steel housing with fully encapsulated electronics and dual layer surge protection. These details in design virtually eliminate the threat of outside damage to internal components due to water ingress, corrosion, vibration and transient spikes.

Power for the CXT with WirelessHART gas detector is supplied by disposable or rechargeable battery options that provide up to 34 months of continuous operation on a single charge. Available in two basic sensor versions, the IR is equipped with an infrared sensor for monitoring combustible hydrocarbons and the DM is fitted with one of a variety of electrochemical sensors for monitoring toxic gases and oxygen.

The products will carry CSA, ATEX / IECEx and HART Foundation approvals at launch, and will quickly gain INMETRO certifications a few months after initial launch. The devices operate at a frequency of 2.4GHz, have a greater than 0.4 mile line-of-site communication capability and uses the industry standard WirelessHART network topology that allows each device to operate as a repeater within the network, ensuring redundant and reliable communication at all times.
