In 2011 AD Systems introduced their first automated smoke point analyser SP10. This offered operators a giant leap forward from the original manual method and consequently, it became the go-to reference method in jet fuel specification.
With AD Systems’ automatic system, the flame image is digitalised and the dedicated software determines the flame height with a resolution of 0.1mm when its shape corresponds to the one with the maximum height before smoke generation as described in the test method. With the automation educated guesses are eliminated and a repeatable and accurate measurement is achieved. The dangers posed by observing an open flame during a manual smoke point test are also a nuisance of the past.
Recently, AD Systems launched the new, improved model SP20 automated ASTM D1322 jet fuel smoke point analyser. Whilst the updated model strictly adheres to the method, the level of precision has been improved. Compare to its predecessor, the new version significantly lowers the work load; thanks to its integrated ambient condition sensors. The instrument automatically record the barometric pressure at calibration and compensates for atmospheric variations when measuring. The user interface is now also available in 7 languages.
