Multifunction Analysers for Process Gases

Aug 14 2011

With the successor GMS800 SICK (Germany) has notably enlarged the field of application of the approved extractive all-rounder S700. Part of the new series is for example the multifunctional DEFOR photometer module for measurements in the UV range. With this device even the smallest levels of NO, NO2 and SO2, – for example in the exhaust of gas turbines – can be monitored. The GMS800 can also measure H2S in the natural gas industry and in biogas plants. Further innovations like the very latest in evaluation electronics and an Ethernet interface for data transfer and remote maintenance make it even more interesting for plant and system manufacturers to rely on “one system for everything” for extractive analysis.

Since 2000, the S700 for extractive gas measurement has been one of the most popular and widely spread products of SICK’s process automation line. The successful series was now completely revised and enlarged. The successor GMS800 was introduced to a broad audience for the first time in 2010 during the SICK Process Automation Innovation Week.

The flexible system uses the reliable measuring principles NDIR, thermal conductibility, paramagnetic and electro-chemical O2 measurement, UV resonance absorption spectrometry (UVRAS) and non-dispersive UV photometry (NDUVF). With currently 6 analyser modules, one gas module, I/O modules as well as different housing types it covers all extractive measuring tasks and situations. This means advantages for plant operators regarding purchasing, maintenance and service. Moreover, the GMS800 is equipped with the latest software and it offers all interfaces required for the connection to a process control system or the remote control with an OPC server or Modbus.

In the system rack MAC800, the GMS800 was subjected as the first emission system of all to a complete qualification test according to the new standard EN 15267-3 which ensures the device’s suitability for the future. Thanks to its QAL1 certificate, the use of the GMS800 in facilities subject to approval is therefore no problem. The GMS800 can now register 60 different gas components in the process gases of chemical and petrochemical plants. It can record for example the concentration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in reactive or sour gases.
