Bruker’s (USA) new fast gasoline characterisation methodology for optimising multi-dimensional gas chromatography for the PIONA+ Analyser methodology was introduced to seminar attendees at the 108th Gulf Coast Conference recently. A group of Bruker experts presented several papers and poster sessions, all devoted to the progression and knowledge of chemical analysis technology in the fields of petrochemical chemistry and refining.

Of particular interest to delegates attending GCC was the fast PIONA gasoline methodology for the analysis of complex hydrocarbon mixtures, oxygenates containing gasoline, which conforms to ASTM D-6839 methods and related methods may take up to two hours or more. The methodology presents a simple means to reduce analysis time from 115 minutes down to 70 minutes. A considerable gain is obtained by using smart interaction between the individual columns, while the column and methodical optimization result in a significant reduction in the analysis time without jeopardizing accuracy. The repeatability is in the same range as the more lengthy determination.

Further information on this fast PIONA mode and other methodology can be found at PIONAplus website or the globalenergytesting website. Bruker have made available a large amount of downloadable literature covering the highlights of the conference and additional information regarding their PIONA+ Analyser.
