The ADIPEC 2025 Technical Conferences have achieved a record-breaking 7,086 paper submissions, reflecting the growing momentum behind real-world applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies across the energy sector.
Organised by the Technical Conference by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Downstream Technical Conference by dmg events—this year's submissions mark a 7% increase over 2024. The SPE-led programme received 6,286 abstracts, up 5%, while the Downstream Conference saw a 19.2% rise, with 782 submissions.
Nearly 1 in 5 papers (1,294) focused on AI and Digital Technology, representing a 26% increase from last year, and showcasing the sector's shift from exploration to implementation. Impressively, almost 60% of AI-related submissions centred on real-world deployment, signalling a move beyond theory into scalable, operational solutions.
Beyond AI, the top technical focus areas included:
• Operational Excellence (16%)
• Drilling and Completions (14%)
• Low Carbon & Sustainability (12%)
Within AI-specific topics, the top five subthemes highlight the industry’s priorities:
1. Future of AI & Digital Transformation (13%)
2. Downstream Digital Transformation & Advanced Manufacturing (10%)
3. Internet of Things (IoT) (10%)
4. Digital Twins (10%)
5. Production Enhancement (9%)
ADIPEC 2025, held from 3–6 November in Abu Dhabi, is expected to bring together more than 1,100 industry leaders across nearly 200 technical sessions.
