Sherry Liu, director of research and development and principal scientist at SpectraSensors, Inc. (USA), has received the International Society of Automation (ISA) Award for Excellence in Analytical Innovation. The scientist significantly refined gas analysis based on Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS), and developed a series of TDLAS based gas analysis solutions for natural gas and petrochemical applications

The non-profit technical society ISA is one of the foremost professional organisations in the world for setting standards and educating industry professionals in automation. The purpose of the award is to recognise an individual who has played a critical role in the conception, design, and/or implementation of an innovative product, process, and/or service in the analytical technology field. The award presentation was made on 10 November 2014 at the annual ISA Honors and Awards Gala at the Arvest Bank theatre at the Midland in Kansas City, Missouri.

Sherry Liu’s numerous innovations for Endress+Hauser SpectraSensors include TDLAS based pressure invariant detection, multi-peak background compensation, differential spectroscopy, self-calibration, calibration state reconstruction, virtual frequency lock, energy meter, collisional broadening compensation, etc. She has also had 26 US and international patents issued, and more than 30 patents pending. “I deeply appreciate the very welcome and nurturing environment ISA has created for young professionals like me,” said the 39 year old scientist at the award ceremony. “I would also like to thank my employer for all the support shown to me since my career began in 2006.”
