Robert E. Manning, Ph.D., technical advisor, retired President of Cannon Instrument Co. (USA) and life time resident in State College, PA, has been honored with a 50 Year Service Award. ASTM International Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants recognised Dr. Manning for "his 50 years of continuous service to the standards writing-efforts of ASTM over the

course of his distinguished career."

Patrick Maggi, President of Cannon Instrument Company and Chairman of ASTM D02.07.A said on Monday “Bob has committed his entire career to advancing the science of viscosity measurement for liquids. We are honored to have worked  with Bob for so many years and challenged to continue in his footprints as we  advance viscosity measurement technologies and develop new instrumentation.  Many of Bob’s technological innovations continue in the core of our current laboratory instruments and processes. Bob, with his wealth of knowledge, continues to consult with Cannon from time-to time.”

An ASTM International member since 1958, Dr. Manning serves as the D02 member at large and is particularly active in D02.07.0A on Newtonian Viscosity (past Chairman) and D02.07.02 on Viscosity of Used Diesel Oils. In addition, he is a member of ASTM Committee E20 on Temperature Measurement. Outside ASTM, Manning is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Society of Chemical Engineers, Sigma Xi, and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

In his career, Robert Manning has focused on viscosity measurement, viscosity standards, and packed column distillation. He earned his B.S. and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in State College.
