New Software for Optical Emission and X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometers Saves Time and Cost
Jul 18 2013
Laboratory operators using optical emission (OE) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometers – especially in materials certification and process control settings – can save time and money, thanks to new software that eliminates the need for certified reference materials.
The software, Thermo Scientific (USA) OXSAS 2.0, which incorporates powerful Thermo Scientific UniQuant software, enables XRF users to accurately measure up to 79 elements in an unknown sample without the need for specific calibration, effectively eliminating the need for certified reference materials. This software is especially helpful for users in materials science, contract and research laboratories, metals, and minerals.
“Laboratories often need to quickly determine the elemental composition of samples of different natures, sizes and shapes,” said Didier Bonvin, XRF product manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “By integrating UniQuant software in our latest version of OXSAS software, we enable seamless standard-less quantitative analysis, something that is particularly useful for all laboratories that analyse a wide range of different materials.”
OXSAS 2.0 software also offers the following for both optical emission and XRF spectrometers: Unlimited results database size, so customers can use a single database for the instrument’s entire life; A powerful new search engine that quickly searches years of analytical data, particularly useful with managing of larger databases; Ease-of-use improvements, including easier data transfer to external computers, mainframes or laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
OXSAS 2.0 software can be preinstalled on any new OE or XRF spectrometer ordered from Thermo Fisher.
