With the ever increasing need to measure incoming crudes as quickly and efficiently as possible, the industry has responded with a new test method: ASTM D8252 for XRF (X-ray Fluorescence) analysis of nickel and vanadium to enable petroleum professionals to certify products faster and easier than the historical alternate method using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP): ASTM D5708B.

WHY XRF?

• ICP analysis requires rigorous sample preparation involving acid digestion, can take anywhere from 6 to 12 hours to complete a measurement, and is typically performed by a chemist.
