Thermal Imaging Enhances Oil & Gas Production

Oct 14 2011

FLIR ATS (France) thermal imaging cameras are widely used throughout the oil and gas industry as preventative maintenance tools that help spot leaks in tanks, pipelines and facilities thereby improving safety, profitability and minimising emissions with less risk of business interruption due to actions from regulatory agencies.

A series of application stories describing the benefits major international oil and gas companies are gaining from using FLIR gas imaging cameras at key production sites are available to download from www.flir.com/thermography/eurasia/en/content/?id=23996

Optical imaging using FLIR GF-320 gas imaging cameras, offer a number of benefits compared to traditional "sniffers" because they scan a broader area much more rapidly and in areas that are difficult to reach with contact measurement tools. Infrared displays a leak as a plume of vapour in the infrared image. Once a leak is found, from a safe distance, you can use your TVA to quantify the concentration.

The GF-320 camera produces a full picture of the scanned area and leaks appear as a plume of vapour on the camera’s viewfinder or LCD, allowing the user to see fugitive gas emissions. The image is viewed in real time and can be recorded in the camera for easy archiving. Once a leak is found, from a safe distance, you can use your TVA to quantify the concentration.
