US company PNM has announced it is looking for ways to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Energy Business Review reveals that the firm is seeking renewable energy projects in order to augment its renewable generation in relation to its retail energy as a whole to ten per cent.

This requirement will increase over the next decade, reaching 15 per cent by 2015 and climbing to some 20 per cent by 2020.

"The request for proposals is seeking multiple proposals for hydropower, wind, solar, geothermal and bio-fuel that will help PNM achieve a fully diversified resource portfolio," explains the publication.

Recently, principle energy advisor at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Murray Birt highlighted that British industries should be manufacturing components for low-carbon products.

He explained that this will help firms to redress the balance and to stay competitive in the current economy, while he also claimed it is important that this type of work is not taken offshore.
