The oil industry is just one sector where concerns about personal safety are encouraging the use of more robots, reports Frost & Sullivan.

According to the analyst's publication Robots for Maintenance and Safety, the oil industry, along with aerospace and defence, are all areas where robots are already used for precisely accurate output.

However, personal safety is also accelerating the use of robotics in a broad array of sectors, with increased uptake also as technology and components mature.

Amritha Sridharan, research analyst for Frost & Sullivan Technical Insights, says: "Advancements in robotics have been achieved mainly in the military and industrial sectors due to the huge financial assistance extended to develop and commercialise highly technical and expensive robots."

Robots are making some inroads in domestic settings too, as the report notes they play an increasing presence in home automation setups.
