Businesses' struggle to reduce emissions could in part be due to difficulty dealing with energy companies, once expert has suggested.

According to policy manager for transport, environment and planning at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Richard Critchley, it can be hard for companies to find good deals.

Explaining that getting value packages may be "complicated and expensive" for firms, he adds that business owners can also be liable for mistakes that the energy companies themselves make.

Ofcom recently announced a review of the way in which energy companies work, which includes an examination of their processes in the non-domestic market.

Commenting on this review, Mr Critchley explains that it "seeks to enhance the level of competition with the energy sector, which if successful, would help to drive innovation and lower costs, something all businesses would support".

Ofcom's energy review will also look at the structure of pricing packages and accounting disclosures.
