Rapid heavy feed characterisation in less than a minute

May 11 2020

Topnir' s technology is a field proven solution providing accurate property predictions of any type of hydrocarbon, neat or in a mixture. Indeed, Topnir is based on topology with spectra matching, which works through pattern recognition and database densification. In less than one minute Topnir instantly delivers all the properties required for a given application. Moreover, it enables the possibility of extrapolation from the initial calibration range.

Topnir Systems develops online solutions to optimise refinery process units such as crude distillation units, blending plants and more. In addition, Topnir offers a solution dedicated to characterising residue feeding process units like hydrocrackers.

Indeed, when working in a residue hydrocracking unit (RHU), it is imperative to precise the asphaltenes in the feed. If they are not strictly maintained in a solution, avoiding precipitation, reactors will be completely coked, leading to maintenance cost well over $1MM USD/train. In addition, the lengths that you must go to in order to de-coke the system can be extremely complex.

The use of Topnir is a tremendous step forward compared to the costly and time-consuming manual spot tests to gauge asphaltene precipitation. Topnir operators have significant success pushing RHU feed quality constraints, which is a considerable and prompt payback as well as an ongoing continued return.
