Normally, production facilities have low waste water discharge levels, mostly within the range of 1,000 ppm TOC (total organic carbon). However, occasionally the installation can suffer failures or process disturbances take place. In this case, the range could very well reach a level of up to 50,000 ppm. If these go unnoticed, besides the expenses of waste water treatment processing, energy supply, taxes and legal charges, valuable base chemicals and end products may be lost. For safe and efficient plant operation, the online TOC analysis is recommended, if not regulated.

LAR's online total organic carbon analyser QuickTOCultra uses the ultra high temperature combustion method. At the temperature of 1200°C, the samples' compounds – no matter whether the organics are in a dissolved, mixed, oily, particulate or volatile state – are completely oxidized. There is no sample preparation necessary such as filtration or dilution. As a result, operators save expenses for sample conditioning systems and oxidation promoting catalysts. Downstream of the oven, the CO2 gas formed is measured by a NDIR detector, which determines the TOC content. The analysers' innovative design enables the measurement of total organic carbon in water in less than 3 minutes. In the case of an exceeding of alarm threshold, operators may rapidly take countermeasures such as redirection of highly contaminated water streams to buffer tanks for peak shaving.

The QuickTOCultra is able to measure up to six sample streams. Thus, operators save expenses for several TOC analysers.

LAR's TOC analyser is the optimal solution for reliable online monitoring of industrial waste water. The innovative design as well as fast measurement convinces companies all over the world. Worldwide, thousands of LAR's analysers are successfully in operation.
