LAR QuickTOCpurity Analysers Installation at Prelude FLNG Project

In May 2011, Shell settled the final decisions on the construction of the world's first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility. During construction, five online analysers from LAR AG are to be installed. As online measurement systems, these QuickTOCpurity analysers will monitor and control the condensate streams for the fast and precise determination of total organic carbon (TOC) in the pure water used for industrial processing. Their unique thermal oxidation technique guarantees that all organic impurities are completely oxidised without exception and offers the added saving of negating the need of expensive catalysts, as with other high temperature methods.

The floating facility is revolutionary technology 488 metres long and 74 metres wide that will allow Shell to access gas fields off the coast of Australia that would otherwise be too costly or difficult to develop. On completion the facility will be towed to its destination, where the natural gas produced from the field will be chilled to -162°C, shrinking its volume by 600 times, before being shipped to customers in other parts of the world.

Tough demands are made on the QuickTOCpurity analysers on-board the largest floating offshore facility in the world in terms of accuracy and availability. Through the innovative design of the multi-loop injection system which is small, compact, has reduced internal dimensions and wetted surfaces, as well as no dead volumes, memory effects from previous measurements are avoided. Hence, the results given are always accurate enabling optimal processing in the gas production which will be helping to meet the growing demands of Asia for gas.
