A new standard in methane leak detection for natural gas pipe surveys

11 Aug, 2025

INFICON’s IRwin® Methane Leak Detector is a portable, Ex-certified device built for dependable and extremely accurate natural gas leak detection, developed for safety inspection technicians,  gas utilities, and service contractors. IRwin offers highly accurate readings from 1 ppm to 100 Vol. % methane and 1–100% LEL due to its advanced infrared sensor technology. Multiple detection modes, which includes Universal Mode, enables easy operation for inspection tasks such as above-ground surveying and bar hole testing.

The IRwin SX  includes a patent-pending infrared system and integrated gas chromatograph (GC), enabling dependable distinction between swamp and natural gas, even at low methane concentrations. With fast response and recovery times, it minimises false alarms and ensures compliance with standards such as DVGW G 465-4.

The IRwin SX models are certified for use in hazardous environments (Zone 0 / Class I Div 1), meeting both ATEX and US safety standards.

Designed for field operators, the IRwin system includes a robust, ergonomic probe kit for streamlined gas pipeline surveys.
