Why Does Russia Want to Nationalise Its Oil and Gas Industry?

Jul 09 2016

A famously communist nation, Russia’s political landscape has always been in the global spotlight. With an upcoming election on the horizon, political commentators are asserting that the nationalisation of the sovereign state’s oil and gas industry is a top priority for the Communist election agenda. Goodbye Putin. Hello oil and gas for all!

With the date drawing closer, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation has released its official program for September’s parliamentary elections. The party is promising the public major reform, including support for Russian business, science and culture, as well as nationalising the oil and gas sector.

Advocating for a ‘people’s nation’

Communist leader Gennadiy Zyuganov is fronting the movement, and unveiled his party’s plans with a no nonsense program titled ‘10 Steps to Decent Living.’ It asserted that once the Communist Party of the Russian Federation gains power, their keynote focus will be on putting an end to the economic crisis, while simultaneously guaranteeing social justice across the nation.

“We are entering the 2016 elections with the program of economic and spiritual revival of Russia. Today we propose our approaches and principles in order to make them into state laws for the government of people’s trust and national interests. The 10 points of our program are the new image of the future for our motherland,” said Zyuganov in an article published by Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily.

Building a “government of people’s trust”

To do this, Zyuganov and his party plan to nationalise major enterprises in the oil and gas industry, as well as a host of large banks, infrastructure companies and communications/defence enterprises. He maintains this will spark investment in the Russian economy, and minimise the nation’s dependence on foreign capital. Part of this includes a plan to radically shake up the Russian tax system in a bid to ease the burden on everyday ‘Russian Joes.’ This contributes to the Communist goal of creating a “government of people’s trust” underpinned by parliamentary representation.

With the Communist party’s sights firmly set on nationalising its oil and gas industry, the government should be looking at new ways to maximise margins. ‘How opting for coriolis flowmeters can make you money’ features expert commentary from David Bowers, Product Manager Pressure and Process Flow for ABB UK Measurement & Analytics. He offers tips on how to simplify the selection process when choosing flowmeters, and explains how Coriolis technology ticks the boxes when it comes to helping users to maximise savings through accurate and versatile flow measurement.
