With a global branded network of 43,000 retail sites spread across the globe, Shell is one of the world’s undisputable oil giants. Across the planet, Shell pumps gas for over 25 million customers per day. Its presence spans 70 countries, with 160 billion litres of fuel sold every year. In a move that strengthens its reign, the company has now signed a five-year deal with Franklin Fueling Systems, the world’s leading innovator, provider and distributor of UPP polyethylene containment.

Shell scores Franklin’s in-house innovation

Under the new deal Shell will unlock round the world access to the group’s next generation products and end-to-end system solutions. This encompasses its company owned sites, as well as its global network of dealers, branded wholesalers and licensees.

So what new technologies will Shell now be able to leverage? Primarily Franklin will offer holistic retail fuelling solutions, including both piping and containment systems. Other services include purpose built service station hardware, submersible pumping systems, intelligent fuel management schemes and economic dispensing systems.

Jay Walsh, Franklin Fueling System Executive Vice President is thrilled to be on board, commenting "Franklin Fueling Systems is exceptionally suited to deliver the most innovative and high quality products to meet our clients’ needs.”

Needless to say, safety will be a paramount focus. "We are the industry leader in complete fuel system solutions. Franklin is committed to building the best fuel stations, with the finest equipment, and in the safest manner,” he adds.

Shell takes to the skies

As well as providing fuel to on-road drivers, Shell is also an active player in the aviation industry. Everyday, Shell Aviation refuels 7000 aircrafts, landing in 900 airports across 40 countries. This accounts for one refuelled plane every 12 seconds. Clients include both commercial airlines, as well as private customers.

The aviation fuelling arena is markedly different from its on-road counterpart. For more insight into the logistics of the industry, ‘The Future of Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Heater Tube Scanning’ introduces readers to multi-wavelength ellipsometry, one of the industry’s most important tests. As aviation kerosene undergoes significant heating within the fuel systems of gas turbines, jet fuel thermal oxidation testing is rapidly gaining importance. This goes hand in hand with a growing need for more reliable methods to validate heater tube readings. Now, new studies are showing that multi-wavelength ellipsometry offers accurate results, with proven precision.
