AMEC has been awarded a £150 million contract at the Clair Ridge oil field.

The engineering and project management services (EPMS) firm has been enlisted to provide the service for the huge oil field in Shetland, on behalf of oil industry giants BP, Shell, ConocoPhillips and Chevron.

Work is already underway on the main platform design for Clair Ridge, which is the second phase of the Clair oil field to the west of the islands.

"The award will see AMEC deliver detailed engineering and project management services for the construction and installation phase of two new bridge-linked platforms," a statement said.

Neil Bruce, chief operating officer of AMEC, said that he was "proud" that his team had been chosen for the project, adding that the development will create hundreds of jobs in the UK and will ensure the creation of oil industry jobs in the future.
