Non-homogeneity of high viscosity fuels is a major point to address in order to assure steady combustion processes. HVF, without a viscometer, cannot be burned due to the vast non- homogeneities. Viscosity control prior to injection is indispensable and implies heating the HVF. Burning high viscosity fuels presents problems such as non-homogeneity and poor injection. It causes inaccurate combustion, fuel over-consumption, increased stack emissions, frequent maintenance operations, and manufacturing downtime.
For consistent atomisation, the installation of a MIVI sensor and the associated electronic controller allows the high viscosity fuel to reach the correct viscosity when heated and to maintain stability during the combustion process. A critical MIVI viscometer characteristic is the ability to provide viscosity ranges up to 1,000,000 cP.
Installing one MIVI sensor on an industrial vapour injector burner allows immediate installation payback because fossil fuel energy savings reach 100% when switching to full HVF burning. The Sofraser (France) MIVI inline process viscometer not only lessens fossil fuel consumption, but standardises high viscosity fuels' non-homogeneities and accurately provides and controls fuel oil viscosity at a specifically set point.
