Mud logging supplies important data to the exploratory drilling industry. This data has historically been provided by an isothermal GC method, but the method is slow.

Fortunately, VICI - Valco Instruments’ newly designed multi-zone temperature controller can dramatically speed up this process. It can accurately control GC component temperature with different sensing methods – wire, RTD, TC. The heating element is bundled tightly along the column for uniform heating and also functions as the sensing element.

With this technology, a C1-C5 gas mixture analysis can be completed within 12 seconds. The cool down time is less than 18 seconds, for a total run time of less than 30 seconds—with good sensitivity, repeatability, and linearity.

The fast column temperature method can result in faster analysis, smaller column size, higher sensitivity, and less power consumption.
