The JEOL AccuTOF-GCx-Plus GC-HRMS enables differentiation of petrochemicals by their exact masses. Optional soft ionisation methods such as Field Ionisation (FI) and Field Desorption (FD) allow unambiguous detection of molecular ions, even for large saturated hydrocarbons. Additionally, two optionally available combination ion sources (EI/FI/FD, EI/PI) allow for an easy switch between ionisation methods without the need for breaking vacuum, making this a uniquely versatile GC-HRMS system. A data analysis package is available that automatically integrates all of the high-resolution data from EI and soft ionisation into a concise report.

The JEOL AccuTOF-GCx Plus can also be configured with comprehensive 2D gas chromatography (GCxGC) which uses two GC columns with different phases to maximize the separation of compounds in truly complex mixtures such as petrochemicals. Furthermore, all ionisation options (EI, FI, PI, CI+/-) can be used for GCxGC-HRMS analysis. As a result, structural elucidation and type analysis of compound classes in complex petroleum products such as base oils is possible when using the AccuTOF-GCx Plus in combination with GCxGC.
