Double your GC capability without adding a second GC

17 Jun, 2026

Multiple GC analyses are often required for full product characterisation, involving different temperature programs and complex data integration. The temperature programmable Secondary Oven from Da Vinci Laboratory Solutions expands the capabilities of the Agilent 8890 GC, enabling simultaneous dual GC analysis without the need for a second GC system or additional software licenses.

When One GC Analysis Is Not Enough

Many applications require multiple gas chromatographic analyses to achieve full characterisation. These methods often demand different oven temperature programs due to the maximum column temperatures or different oven programming.

While gas chromatographs can be equipped with additional heated (valve) ovens, these solutions typically come with design considerations such as restricted temperature programmability and defined column compatibility. In addition, results from separate GC systems or data stations must be combined into a single report, increasing complexity and the risk of errors.

Independent Temperature Programming — No Compromise

To address these challenges, Da Vinci Laboratory Solutions introduces the Secondary Oven for the Agilent 8890 GC. This fully temperature programmable auxiliary oven enables two independent GC analyses within a single solution, without compromising oven programs or column lifetime.

The Secondary Oven supports flexible method development and advanced multidimensional GC configurations, including GC×GC and heart cut applications, while eliminating the need for a second GC or additional software licenses.

One Solution. One Workflow. One Data File.

The Secondary Oven is fully integrated into the Agilent 8890 GC workflow. All secondary oven parameters including oven temperature, inlet settings, and detector signals, are controlled directly through the Agilent GC.

Data generated by the primary GC and the Secondary Oven are automatically combined into a single data file, enabling unified processing, improved data integrity, and simplified reporting.

Perform Two Analyses Simultaneously

The Secondary Oven enables simultaneous dual analyses that require separate temperature programs. Typical applications include:

  • Crude oil analysis: determination of light ends (ASTM D7900) and boiling point distribution (ASTM D7169);
  • LPG analysis: hydrocarbon composition (ASTM D2163) and oily residue determination (ASTM D7756).

Built for Flexible GC Configurations

The Da Vinci LS Secondary Oven is a full sized oven offering versatile configuration options, including:

  • Detectors: FID, TCD, NPD, PFPD, or MSD;
  • Inlets: Split/splitless, Cool On Column, Da Vinci LS PTI, or Da Vinci LS Pre fractionator;
  • Injection: Liquid Sampling Valve (LSV) or Automatic Liquid Sampler (ALS);
  • Methanizer for CO/CO₂ to CH₄ conversion;
  • Transfer line for oven-to-oven connection (for different temperature programs for one analysis, GC×GC or heart-cut applications).
