Trace Moisture Analysis in Chlorine or Hydrogen Chloride Gas

Nov 19 2012

Trace moisture measurement in chlorine and hydrogen chloride is not straightforward. The harsh environment and corrosive gases in a chlor alkali plant require purpose designed analysers.   cmc Instruments GmbH is a specialist manufacturer of trace moisture analysers for these more challenging applications. The versatile, proven sensor technology combines fast, accurate readings with easy maintenance and a long lifetime.

Unlike some other, more expensive technologies, analysers are available both fixed and portable. This enables multiple checks around a plant with a single analyser. Likewise the sample systems, if required, can be fixed or portable.

Trace moisture is a critical measurement on chlor alkali plants so all standard cmc Instruments sensors are available ex-stock, they are also compatible with most other manufacturers analysers.  Monel is the material of choice for the sensor body for chlorine applications and Hastelloy for hydrogen chloride applications. Alternatively the sensor body can be made from PTFE or PFA which can be more popular in humid atmospheres.  There is also a choice of fittings - 6mm or ¼”, a choice of seals – Viton, FEP or Kalrez and electrodes in platinum or rhodium.

cmc Instruments also manufacture their own sample systems to accompany the analysers if required. These can be simple or complex, ranging from simple pressure regulation to multi-channel systems with alarms and bypass loops.

Choice of the correct Monel alloy is important and the welding of Monel requires specialised skills. All cmc Instruments products are made in Germany and uphold the reputation of German quality which is understood globally.

cmc Instruments manufacture trace moisture analysers, gas generators, filter systems for process gases (including chlorine) and the new WearSens® and OilQSens® - patented, online systems for early detection of oil quality deterioration in roller bearings, gears and high voltage transformers.
