Push-button automation of ASTM D4402 up to 300 °C

23 Apr, 2026

Anton Paar’s ViscoQC rotational viscometer is designed to turn traditional bitumen testing into a streamlined, fully automated workflow. With a pre-programmed ASTM D4402 method, a single sample can be tested at up to three temperatures within one run.

Temperature control, measurement sequence, and data acquisition are executed automatically – operators simply start the method with the push of a button and collect the final report. This reduces hands-on time, increases sample throughput, and delivers standardised and reproducible results, enabling faster release decisions in refinery and production environments.

In addition, ViscoQC supports full automation of standards such as AASHTO T316 and DIN EN 13302. Guided workflows and automated parameter control eliminate manual method setup and significantly reduce the risk of operator error – ensuring consistent compliance with international standards while improving operational efficiency and confidence in reported data across shifts and sites.

An intuitive graphical user interface allows full control of both measurement and temperature devices via the viscometer’s display. The standard magnetic spindle coupling ensures easy, safe attachment without screwing mechanisms, reducing the risk of damage to the spindle and instrument while increasing instrument uptime.

Fully automated multi-point temperature calibration

For precise temperature control, ViscoQC offers fully automated multi-point temperature calibration without manual intervention, ensuring accurate performance across the entire operating range. These automated calibration procedures not only save operator time but are also essential for compliance documentation.

With ViscoQC, bitumen viscosity testing is transformed into a streamlined, push-button process – delivering reliable data, higher productivity, and operational security and compliance for modern production and QC environments.
