Yokogawa UK Ltd. has been awarded a contract for the supply of an Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) for the Golden Eagle Area Development (GEAD) Project operated by Nexen Petroleum (U.K).

The Golden Eagle area, which is home to one of the largest oil and gas discoveries in the UK North Sea in the past ten years, comprises the Golden Eagle and Peregrine fields, and is operated by Nexen with Maersk Oil, Suncor Energy Inc, and Edinburgh Oil and Gas as partners.

This is Yokogawa's first major contract with Nexen Petroleum U.K., and sees Yokogawa further develop its significant installation base in the North Sea, continuing the company's strong commitment to the industry.

The ICSS package utilises Yokogawa's flagship CENTUM VP for the process control system and operator environment. The SIL-rated process shutdown systems and main fire & gas detection systems are based on Yokogawa's ProSafe-RS safety system with diverse ProSafe-SLS solid-state safety system technology deployed for the emergency shutdown system.

Other systems included within the ICSS package include the operational data system utilising Yokogawa's Exaquantum historian and asset management using Yokogawa's PRM package.

The ICSS will be installed across the new GEAD complex, comprising the process utilities and living quarters platform and a bridge-linked wellhead platform.
