New Oxygen Self Rescuer With "Safety Eye"

Jul 21 2011

With the new Oxy 6000 Dräger (Germany) introduces an oxygen self- rescuer with "Safety Eye", which allows the user to determine whether the device is ready for use at any time.

Oxygen self rescuers are designed for self rescue and protect the user from toxic gases and vapors, smoke and fog as well as from lack of oxygen. They are used after an accident for a fast retreat from the danger zone or while waiting for help. This year, Dräger introduces the Oxy 6000, a new freely portable oxygen self rescuer that features an integrated mouthpiece, nose clip and protective goggles for workers in e.g. mining, as well as utilities and shipping applications.

The self-rescuer is equipped with a so-called "Safety Eye". It allows the user to determine at a single glance whether the device is ready for use. The round display window on the side facing the body informs the user about possible moisture or yellow KO2 fragments inside the device at any time. In this case, the device must be exchanged immediately. With the "Safety Eye," Dräger offers continuous monitoring in any situation and at any time. Even under extreme ambient conditions (such as mining), the Oxy 6000 oxygen self rescuer offers maintenance-free operation for up to ten years.

The Oxy 6000 is an escape device that functions independently of the ambient air and operates on the basis of chemically bound oxygen. At a normal breathing rhythm, the device offers up to 60 minutes of independence from the ambient air – important time to escape out of the danger zone and seek shelter.

The Oxy 6000 has a sturdy and robust housing that protects the KO2 cartridge inside by means of an integrated shock absorber and a crumple zone. Optionally, an impact protection helps to minimize wear and tear. The compact device offers a high level of freedom of movement thanks to its ergonomic design. The stainless steel clip can be opened manually for easy and fast donning of the self-rescuer. As required, the user can carry the Oxy 6000 with a shoulder strap or on the belt.

Regular training for emergencies can improve the safety of the staff. This is why Dräger also offers the Oxy 6000 as a training device. Optionally, it is available with a mouthpiece combination that simulates the actual operating temperatures and breathing resistance and helps to be prepared for an emergency.
