SPIE UK has been awarded the complete electrical instrumentation and trace heating systems associated with the construction of five new atmospheric tanks that will ultimately cater for the import, storage and export of Benzene related products at the Inter Terminals port site, at Seal Sands.

Working to a tight deadline, efforts began at the start of March 2017 and will be completed by the end of April 2017. During this period, SPIE will complete the works with an estimated value of £550,000 plus.

Situated at the mouth of the River Tees, the Seal Sands Terminal provides easy access to the major petrochemical and industrial complexes in the North of England, and is an Upper Tier site under the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations 2015.

SPIE was awarded the project based on its demonstrable engineering expertise, skill sets and outstanding health and safety record; an essential element when working within a COMAH site of this nature.

Steven Nanda, Industrial Services Managing Director at SPIE UK, comments: “This will be the first time SPIE has worked with Inter Terminals and we are pleased with the way the relationship is developing already. SPIE has ambitious targets in mind for its work with ports and harbours in the UK and this contract is a major step towards it achieving those goals.”
