FLIR technology has been implemented for emissions detection in the Port of Rotterdam.

The GF320 optical gas detection camera has been installed by the Dutch Environmental Protection Agency (DMCR) to uphold regulations regarding fugitive gas emissions in Rijnmond.

Optical imaging using FLIR GasFindIR thermal cameras have a number of benefits over the traditional 'sniffers'.  They scan a broader area much more rapidly and in areas that are difficult to reach with contact measurement tools. Additionally, infrared displays a leak as a plume of vapor in the infrared radar image. Once a leak is found, from a safe distance, you can use your TVA to quantify the concentration.

The seaport in Rijnmond area is the largest in Europe, and is heavily occupied with heavy industry such as refineries, waste incinerators, and waste dumping sites as well as many large chemical and metallurgical plants.

These operations significantly increase the risk of pollution, and the DMCR will increasingly require the use of these technologies to monitor the environmental impact of the port.
