Element Materials Technology (Element) has opened a new laboratory in Singapore, servicing customers in the oil and gas sector.

Located in Tuas, Element Singapore is an ISO 17025 accredited materials testing laboratory which offers specialized metallurgical and fracture toughness testing. It will provide services to all the major oil and gas EPC contractors and fabricators around the Asia Pacific region.

The laboratory will employ 21 people and significant investments have been made in state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the provision of the most efficient service for customers. In addition to metallurgical and fracture toughness testing, the laboratory now has multiple baths for ASTM G48 corrosion testing and has the capacity to conduct coating testing, such as cathodic disbondment testing at room temperature and elevated temperature, as well as indentation and impact testing. The sour service corrosion testing facilities have also been upgraded thanks to investment in a high end scrubber system.

Rod Martin, EVP Oil & Gas and Infrastructure at Element, said: “Over the last few years, we have invested heavily in growing Element’s Oil & Gas testing presence globally, so we are very excited to have now opened our new Element Singapore laboratory.

“This investment in our testing capabilities, particularly in new and highly specialized equipment, also allows us to boost capacity, therefore better meeting the technical needs of our customers across the Asia Pacific region and worldwide.”

Element has one of the largest independent metallurgical testing service capabilities in the world. The company’s network of experts and specialist centres of excellence deliver an extensive range of destructive and static testing services from Charpy and tensile testing, to more technically demanding fatigue and fracture toughness tests and corrosion testing services.
