Renewable energy project given grant

Dec 21 2012

A project in Louth which looks to reduce emissions has received a huge grant, allowing it to benefit homes from the local area.

The investment means that individuals in the area will be given money to install new heat technologies in their home.

Not only will these new heat technologies help reduce emissions - getting the country closer to the government's 20/20 targets, it will also help these individuals save huge amounts of money on their energy bills.

Homes will also be better insulated, meaning that the harsh winters will be less difficult and, indeed, less costly.

Groundwork Lincolnshire and Transition Town Louth have joined together for the scheme and it has taken years of planning and hard work to get the project off the ground.

James Pocklington of Transition Town Louth said: "It's great news that all the hard work has paid off and we hope that this initiative will signal the start of greater ongoing investment in renewable technologies within our community."

It is hoped that other communities will follow in the footsteps of Louth, in order to reduce emissions across the country and keep people out of fuel poverty.

Lower energy bills are a necessity when one considers that around 300,000 homes are in fuel poverty.

This is a figure that is set to rise this Christmas.

Mike O'Connor, chief executive of Consumer Focus, warned: "Fuel poverty levels will rise unless determined action is taken. Six million households plan to cut back on their heating this winter due to fears about costs."

Fuel poverty and environmental goals are the two most important things to the teams.

Groundwork's Vicky Dunn added: "It is great to be able to benefit the environment, local business, and help local households reduce their energy bills. This is what Groundwork Lincolnshire does, I and my staff and volunteers are proud to be part of it."
